Ability Prosthetics & Orthotics, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, donated a prosthetic limb to patient Manuel Valenzuela during a live appearance on the Spanish-language Univision Networks television show, Despierta America, on September 28. Ability says that the show plans to chronicle the process of Valenzuela receiving his new prosthetic limb.
Valenzuela, a native of Peru, lost a leg, arm, and eye after an explosive went off near a school full of children. Ability said in a press release, “Valenzuela’s bravery…saved many lives that day. He is a man with lots of energy to live and a person who motivates others to love life as much as he does.”
Valenzuela said, “My goal now is to motivate others and to live life to the fullest with my family and friends.”
“Valenzuela just completed a one-mile swim across the Hudson River in 44 minutes,” added Jeffrey Brandt, Ability CEO and founder. “When Univision contacted me, it was an easy decision. Manuel is very inspirational and has decided to use his misfortune to create awareness and education. We are glad to help support him with a new limb.”
