The War Amps, the 90-year-old Canadian charity that benefits and is mostly administered by amputees, has won top U.S. film honors for two of its productions.
Mark: An Island Champ, is a 30-minute short film about a young Prince Edward Island boy who lost an arm at seven in a farm accident. He enrolled in the War Amps Child Amputee Program (CHAMP) and embraced its philosophy. Now 20, he is a role model for the younger “Champs,” a successful athlete, and is well-known as a War Amps Safety Ambassador. Mark won a Gold Remi Award at the 2010 Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival.
Legacy is an English-language War Amps public service announcement that describes how the War Amps legacy will be carried into the future through CHAMP. Le Vainqueur Jeffrey and La Vainqueur Juliette are French-language PSAs that tell the stories of two CHAMP kids. Legacy took home a Gold Remi from Houston, and Le Vainqueur Jeffrey garnered a Platinum Remi. La Vainqueur Juliette earned a gold medal in the PSA category at the Questar Film Festival in New York, New York, and went on to win the Festival’s overall Grand Award.
