Jack Schultz, CO, passed away on October 5. He was 68.
Schultz began working as a certified orthotist in 1965 under the direction of his father, George Schultz, who started Acme Surgical Appliance, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1950. He followed his brother David into the business, with their brother Charles joining them ten years later. In 1975, the company moved to larger headquarters and underwent a name change to Acme Laboratories to reflect its expanded scope of business. After George passed away in 1976, Schultz and his brothers continued to grow the company, opening new offices and increasing the business volume and the number of employees. Acme again experienced a name change-to Actra Orthotics and Prosthetics-to reflect the service it provided. In 2004, Actra was purchased by Physiotherapy Associates, Exton, Pennsylvania.
Schultz continued to work for Actra under the new ownership until he retired in April 2010. He mentored numerous residents in his tenure, “imparting each with his vast knowledge, exceptional hand skills, business sense, and humor, remaining their mentor even after they too became certified,” said Andrea Pavlik, CO.
Schultz was also one of the founding members of the Wisconsin Society of Orthotists, Prosthetists & Pedorthists; he served on its board of directors from its start in 2005 until 2010 and helped the organization draft insurance fairness for amputees and licensure bills, which continue to be worked on today.
In his personal life, Schultz was an avid hunter and devoted spouse and father. Schultz was also involved with the Ronald McDonald House of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Schultz is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children, Kelly Schultz and Anne Marie Solomko; and brother Charles (Peggy); as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those who wish to make a donation in Schultz’s memory may do so to the Ronald McDonald House of Milwaukee.
