I would like to clearify some subjects on the gait pattern of a patient with amputation, if
possible.
General characteristics:
gender: male
age: 22
AK prosthesis (Left)
knee: Otto Bock 3R80
socket: quadrilateral brim transfemoral suction socket
foot: Flex foot
Muscular strength (Kendall scale – 0 to 5):
Left Right
adductor 5 5
gluteos medius 5 5
gluteos maximus 4 5

Notes:
– The patient uses prosthesis since October, 2001.
– He doesn’t mention pain.
– limitation of flexion of the left hip in 60°.
– The prostetic limb is about 1cm longer than the normal limb.
– In an experimental attempt to correct the inclination of the trunk, the patient is using a
FES device in the left gluteos medius.
Subjects:
a. is necessary to use the FES? is the movement of the trunk due to an inadequacy in the
action of the gluteos medius?
b. which the possible reasons for this movement of the trunk?
c. some new alignment can be made in the prosthesis to reduce this problem?
