While O&P is a small segment of the healthcare landscape, every person needing medical care in the United States will have some comparable experiences, and O&P clinicians and business feel similar effects as any provider. Part of any healthcare business means trying to make sure patients’ needs can be met—sometimes even before the appointment.
In the interview, David Walz, BSN, RN, president and CEO of Madelia Health, talked about making sure care feels within reach, not just available. He said, “When we talk about healthcare access, we usually talk about cost and coverage. But what we don’t talk about enough is proximity, trust, and continuity.
“In rural communities, access means:
- Transportation: Can patients actually get to care?
- Time: Do they have to take a full day off to see a doctor?
- Trust: Do they feel known and heard when they arrive?”
