The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published the 2025 Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) Improper Payment Report showing a 24.1 percent improper payment rate for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS). The data is based on claims analyzed from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024.
In the top 20 service types with the highest improper payments, lower-limb orthoses were fifth, lumbosacral orthoses were eighth, upper-limb orthoses were 12th, and diabetic shoes were 13th.
The 2025 improper payment rate is a 2.7 percent increase, and the first increase since 2015, according to AAHomecare.
