Heinrich Popow of Germany, who has a transfemoral amputation of his left leg, set a world record time of 12.11 seconds in the 100m (T42 – single above knee amputees and athletes with other comparable impairments) at the Integratives Leichtathletik Sportfest (Inclusive Athletics Meet) held July 12 in Leverkusen, Germany.
The previous record of 12.14 seconds was jointly held by Australian Scott Reardon, and Canadian Earle Connor. Connor had held the 100m T42 record since 1996, besting his own time in 2002, which Reardon then equaled in April 2013.
Popow and Reardon are set to race again at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics World Championships in Lyon, France, beginning July 19.
