U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has announced her resignation; she has held the position since April 28, 2009. President Obama has nominated Sylvia Mathews Burwell, the director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) since last April, to replace her. Burwell held appointments during the Clinton administration as deputy director of the OMB, deputy chief of staff to the President, chief of state to the Secretary of the Treasury, and staff director of the National Economic Council. Prior to her recent appointment, she served as president of the Walmart Foundation.
