Have a very elderly TF patient, who has been on a russian-made KD
prosthesis for the last 80 years – leather socket, anterior opening, laces,
weight bearing side off-set joints, exoskeletal shin, s/a foot. A few
failed attempts were made in the past by others to convert him to a more
contemporary prosthetic design. I am going to fit him with a prosthesis of
similar design; however, I was unable to find the appropriate side joints.
His joints are off-set by 20mm; this gives him very good stability at heel
strike. Otto Bock makes the only side joints for weight bearing (as far as
I could research), but they are not off-set. Becker has KAFO off-set
joints, but they are not designed to bear weight. He is not heavy, only 110
lbs, so, I guess, anything will work for him. If you have any further
suggestions, I would appreciate them.
