MDP Syndrome

Derek Kozar, M.Sc., C.O.(c)

Hello List,

I have a patient with MDP Syndrome..

MDP syndrome, also known as
mandibular dysplasia with
deafness and
progeroid features, is
an extremely rare
metabolic disorder that prevents fatty tissue from being stored underneath
the skin.

Presents as literally, “skin and bones”. No fatty tissue stored underneath
the skin.

His issue is that he is so sensitive around the elbow areas, any pressure
causes tingling in his ulnar nerve distribution. I thought I could make a
brace that would protect him from anything touching this area while he
sleeps. I did fabricate a brace, but he quickly found that pressure on the
posterior surface of the humerus (where I had a padded shell and strap
anterior) caused this tingling in the fingers as well! I had successfully
prevented pressure in the olecranon area, but increased pressure on the
posterior humerus caused the same issue!

Any thoughts???

Thank you

Derek Kozar M.Sc., C.O.(c)
