AFO options

Derek Kozar, M.Sc., C.O.(c)

Dear List,

100 lb female, dorsiflexor absence due to nerve resection for cancer.
Simple flexible AFO is the answer for her, however.

She only wants to wear skinny jeans and does not want anything to show
underneath of the jeans! I have her in a flexible “Noodle” from Kinetic
Research as she would never accept anything bulkier than this. She wants
only a simple 1 inch Velcro loop strap across the proximal tibia, and
surprise, she gets skin breakdown over the tibial crest. I put padding on
either side of the tibial crest and the issue disappears, but it is too
visible under her skinny jeans!!

Bioness and Walk-Aide will not work for her (she has been tested at another
facility). She will not accept anything like the Dictus Band.

Besides an invisible brace, what other options/designs would you suggest?
