A friend of mine from Ecuador living in the US has a friend who is a
paraplegic living in the Tena province of Napo in Ecuador. His friend’s
wheelchair progressed into disrepair and has not been functional for over a
year. He does not have the finances to afford a new or even a good used
wheelchair. So how does his paraplegic friend get around without his
wheelchair? Friends and family members transport him by carrying him on
their backs or groups of two in tandem.
Shipping a wheelchair from the US would not be an efficient use of funds.
We are trying to locate a source in Ecuador who can provide a wheelchair
for this young man, preferably someone who speaks English as I will be
helping to facilitate the transaction and I do not speak Spanish. There
are some finances available from the US, although any financial
consideration on the other end would be appreciated.
