ANNOUNCING: FREE Transfemoral Subischial Vacuum Socket Course, 15 CEUs

R. J. Garrick

Hello List,
Some spaces are still available in NUPOC’s NU-FlexSIV Socket Course, a free, hands-on, 2-day Continuing Education course that trains experienced Certified Prosthetists in the fundamentals, fabrication and fitting of a subischial vacuum socket. To register, please submit your and your Patient Model’s complete application.
There is no tuition for this course and the Prosthetist can earn 15.5 CEUs. The cost of the NU-FlexSIV Socket Course is supported by Department of Defense (DOD) grant W81XWH-10-0744 as part of the research project “Development of Subischial Prosthetic Sockets with Vacuum-Assisted Suspension for Highly Active Persons with Transfemoral Amputations“.
Certified Prosthetists must register and bring a Patient Model to participate in this course. The first 12 complete registrations will be accepted for each of the 3 sessions. Registration is complete when we receive full documentation for both the Certified Prosthetist and his/her Patient Model.
Certified Prosthetists and their Patient Models must provide their own transportation, overnight accommodations, dinners, and incidental expenses. Complete your registration as soon as possible. The registration deadline for you and your Patient Model is:
Friday, July 3, 2015 for Session 1 to be held on 7/31/15 – 8/1/15
Friday, July 10, 2015 for Session 2 to be held on 8/21/15 – 8/22/15
Friday, July 31, 2015 for Session 3 to be held on 9/11/15 – 9/12/15
This time frame allows us to order the correct sized liner that will fit your Patient Model and be used with his/her subischial socket.
The class is capped at 12 participants to ensure maximum interaction with the developer-instructors, Stefania Fatone, PhD, BPO(Hons), and Ryan Caldwell, CP/L, FAAOP, during discussions, casting, rectification, fittings, and troubleshooting. Certified Prosthetists will take home hands-on knowledge about the NU-FlexSIV Socket, the NU-FlexSIV Socket Manual on a USB drive, the liner that fits your Patient Model, and the check socket that you have fabricated. Also, full participation in the course will enable you to earn 15.5 ABC CEU for no fee.
The NU-FlexSIV Socket Course application and answers to most questions about the NU-FlexSIV Socket Course can be found at: http://www.nupoc.northwestern.edu/education/continuing-ed/NU-FlexSIV%20Socket%20Course.html
Or on the FAQ: http://www.nupoc.northwestern.edu/education/continuing-ed/nu-flexsivFAQ.html
You still have time to register and we hope that some of you will join us in the NU-FlexSIV Socket Course.
Kind regards,
R. J. Garrick
