Re: New K-codes for OTS knee orthoses

Paula Pivko

Hi all maybe my brain has softened from dealing with coding and billing but can anyone make any sense of the new K0901 vs L1843, et al? No sooner than I think it depends on whether the brace needs to be fitted by an orthotist I go to the DME classification system only to find out that some braces, like the Medi OA, can use either K0901 or L1843. We’ve gotten denials using the L1843 code when the brace was fitted by an licensed and certified orthotist. All proper modifiers included. If any rocket scientists out there can give me an answer-although I think even Einstein couldn’t-I’d appreciate it. Merry Christmas also! Paula Martinek, LPO
