Hello colleagues,
I recently evaluated a patient for bilateral KAFOs and I cannot source a
part from her previous braces.
in between her two KAFO’s she has a “wedge and spacer” that keeps her high
adduction tone from scissoring her legs and slamming the KAFOs together as
she walks.
There are two wedge-shaped clear plastic pieces that fit over the proximal
ends of each of the medial bars. In between them on each side is about a
1/2″ round spacer that looks like it is made of polypropylene. There is a
hole in one of the spacers and a post on the other, permitting them to be
joined with a pin (not unlike a cotter pin).
The “pivoting spacers” allow the patient to walk and the plastic spacers
pivot upon each other.
The patient thought her previous orthotist might have fabricated it
himself. If he did this, he is really quite skilled, as these pieces are
well finished, but to me they appear as if they were a product he bought.
Would any of you be able to advise me on where i might find this piece, if
it exists as a commercial product?
