MyoElectric Controls 2014 has been running since 1972. This event is international in nature and incorporates all aspects of powered upper extremity prosthetics.
MEC’14 is a triennial symposium that will be of special interest to those who work in the field of upper limb prosthetics. As in previous years, it will be hosted by the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, a research institute recognized worldwide for its pioneering work in myoelectric controls. MEC ’14 will be held in Fredericton, New Brunswick, August 18-22, 2014.
Standards of practice, technology, and expectations have undergone a remarkable change in the last decade. These concepts will be explored under the theme of MEC ’14 “Redefining the Norm”.
Keynote Speakers

Paul D. Marasco, PhD, is currently a Principal Investigator in the Advanced Platform Technology Center and Director of Amputee Research, Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the Louis Stokes Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. His research investigates the sensory nervous system with a specific focus on systems level mechanisms of brain organization and neural plasticity.

Dan Blocka, BSc, CO(c), FCBC, is a Professor and past Coordinator of the George Brown College, Prosthetic and Orthotic Educational Programs, joining the program in 1986. He is currently the Immediate Past President of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) after a term as President from 2007 to 2010.

Linda Resnik, PT, PhD, is a Research Health Scientist at the Providence VA Medical Center and an Associate Professor (Research) in the Department of Health Services, Policy and Practice, Brown University. Her research focuses on development, testing, and selection of rehabilitation outcome measures; and on usability assessment in upper limb prosthetics. She is the developer of the Activities Measure for Upper Limb Amputees (AM-ULA), and has studied the reliability and validity of other measures for adults with upper limb amputation
As with previous years, courses and workshops geared to clinicians, engineers, and researchers will be offered during the conference. Additional information may be obtained on our website
