New Journal Article for the Gait Society

Cara Negri

Dear List Members,

New content has been posted to the Gait Society Networking site. The latest
Journal Club article relates to the CoP and elderly transfemoral amputees.

The aim of this study was to provide an increased knowledge of the CoP
behavior of elderly adult transfemoral amputees. This information can be
used by rehab professionals as comparative data on which interventions can
be based. The experimental group was 14 participants with transfemoral
amputations, while the control group consisted of 21 participants.

The results found suggested to the authors that CoP parameters compared to
the control group show persons of advanced age with TF amputations who have
adapted to prosthetic use and have no difficulties in walking independently
show gait asymmetry. This is something I think we all have observed in our
own practices, even with non advanced age patients. So what can we use from
this study to help us as practitioners?
