“Medicare repairs” Summary of replies

John Boldt

Thank you to all who replied to my inquiry. I found it interesting that there is a lot of opinions on what should be done but no simple answer. I believe this is at the core of our issues with CMS today. There is simply no concrete understanding of what we should be doing as O&P providers. Everything I have read in the LCD, supplier manual etc, indicates functional classification can be determined by the prosthetist and/or the physician, however we all know the CMS audit contractors have chosen to overlook this language. It shows a clear example of Medicare needing to provide us the tools so that we might be successful in treating our patients rather than the current approach of “guilty until proven innocent”.
