I received an email from my Ossur rep regarding RAC Audit legislation. I haven’t read through all of the bill yet, and don’t know exactly what all of the bill states or includes. But from the points listed on the email, these are some of the same points that Wil Haines and I presented to our Senator’s office in August, and I also took to my Congressman’s office and shared with them.

I am glad that someone is working on this. I cannot track who started this bill, where it originated, and am not sure who is really behind the bill. I just want to pass this along, so that everyone is up to date with current legislation. We should all read this, pay attention to this, AND if we agree or support this, then we need to contact our federal lawmakers, including the offices of the newly elected political leaders that will take their posts in January. I just met with my congressman again 2 weeks ago while he was in town campaigning, and he DID win re-election (a conservative Republican in a very VERY liberal college town…he was the ONLY Republican that won in this community.) Thanks, Jim DeWees, CP

Here is a copy of part of the email:

The Medicare Audit Improvement Act for 2012, H.R. 6575, was
introduced in the House on October16. Addressing some of the audit issues facing
providers, the bill has been referred to the Committee on Ways and Means and to
the Committee on Energy and Commerce for consideration.

Key provisions in the bill include:

·
Limiting the number of Medical record requests from contractors

·
Requiring improvements in auditors’ operations, including financial
penalties to the auditor for failing to meet stated timelines

·
Penalizing auditors in the case of claims denials overturned on
appeal

·
Publicizing information on audit rates, denials, and appeals outcomes by
auditor.
