Shane Wurdeman has posted a new article to our Journal Club discussion board. Check it out!
Nolan KJ and Yarossi M. (2011) Preservation of the first rocker is related to increases in gait speed in individuals with hemiplegia and AFO. Clinical Biomechanics; 26:655-660.
Intro to Shane’s summary:
This article examines 15 individuals with post-stroke hemiplegia ambulating with and without a solid AFO. A study with 15 individuals with post-stroke hemiplegia is good, and can provide some valuable insight into function with and without an AFO. I thought the authors should be commended for excluding subjects that had different AFO’s (a hinged AFO and carbon fiber AFO).
