I have a 37 y.o. active AKA who is currently using a C-leg.
He wants to look at getting a back up prosthesis to use for numerous
activities. His criteria are as follows:
1. He wants to be able to use the prosthesis for general walking at
variable cadences.
2. He wants to be able to walk into water as desired (not
necessarily for swimming). He wants a knee unit that he can feel
comfortable going into a boat in case the boat cap sizes.
3. He wants to be able to use the prosthesis for rock climbing (he
has already attempting to do this activity with his c-leg with limited
success)
4. He does NOT want a micro-processor knee for the back up
prosthesis.
I have read the past responses to water prosthesis, pro/cons, etc.
I had also read that the Aulie knee was a good water use knee, but not
as good for general walking.
A previous post mentioned using the USMC Multi-plex knee with the Mauch
SNS. I can’t find any information as to if the warranty is voided if
used for water activities.
Most recently I read about the Symbioterch XT9 knee unit for rock
climbing and high end activities, but also read it is not as suitable
for general walking.
For those with experience fitting this type of individual, what have you
found to be successful in regards to the “knee choice” itself? I am only
looking at prosthetic options, as the amputee understands the other
ideas of not using a prosthesis for water activities, etc.
