Transfemoral pregnancy

Jake Wood, CP

My fellow colleagues,

My patient is a twenty four year old female with Transfemoral amputation.
She has successfully used a flexible MAS socket with silicone locking liner,
C-LEG and foot. Broke her hand recently and is 14 weeks pregnant.
Desperately wants to return to work. Pregnancy has caused swelling, and prosthesis
is not donable.

I will be making a custom ischial contained bivalve adjustable socket (like
temporary prefabricated bivalve A/K socket from the late 1970 and/or early
1980, silicone locking liner and locking mechanism for suspension. Reusing
C-LEG and foot. Obviously the bivalve adjustable socket is for
accommodating residual limb fluctuation during pregnancy. The socket will be made of
co-poly (anterior and posterior).

My questions are: Has anyone fabricated this design? If so, what problems
you encountered and what suggestion you can give. Any recommendations on the
best shuttle lock?

I will return all responses according to Paul’s rule.

Thank you in advance for your time.
