Ossur Sports Med Fellowship at Emory U.

Charles Barocas

Some of you asked about the Ossur Fellowship in Sports Med for ATC’s at Emory University.

Here is the website http://www.emoryhealthcare.org/departments/sports/atc/current_atc_fellows.html

They have four positions available each year. All are Master degreed ATC’s who are licenced and experienced and also are OTC (Orthopedic Technologist, Certified).

All the major sports and injury brace manufacturers (including Ossur and Dj) see ATC’s as their largest growth potential. I would too. 35,000 ATC’s. All of them on email. Easy to reach. You can even get most of their home addreses for no charge from state license rosters or just pay their national organization for the list by state, region or work environment.

Ossur also makes fiberglass casting tape (they purchased Royce a few years ago) and supported our ASOP fracture casting workshops with product. So they spread the money around which is a good thing. In the end, I think it helps patient care to have many different eyes from different perspectives in Orthopedics.

On a another note.

The Chinese are now supporting non-surgical fracture care research in the US. They do not want to rod and plate every fracture. They want cheaper methods for their billion+ population. That means new fracture braces and casting materials in the future. Maybe more research on injectable bone glues..
