Running AFO 3

Maria Bohnstedt-Petersen

Hi Maria- I have had a case that I used tamarack dorsi-flex assist joints
with 3/16 polypro and left it open range. The joints encourage dorsiflexion
and with the open range, the patient can plantarflex through the running
cycle. This set up has worked well. Best of luck!*

Try toe off from Allard or camp

Maybe the “toe off” “matrix max” by true life

——————————

I’d definitely look into Bleurocker distributed here by Allard USA. It’s
made in Sweden though. I think, it was, originally, made by Truelife. Nope,
it’s Camp Scandinavia.

I use the 1/8 of inch ser lion. After casting the patient for AFO and ready
after Modifications ,I turn oven to 325 to 350 degree cook the plastic sheet
,then vacuum the plastic sheet to the cast .I use the custom made AFO made
from ser lion for sport players who like to play sport.

Hi,

I had spinal fusion surgery 5 years ago and was beginning to experience foot
drop prior to the corrective surgeries. After the surgery my peroneal nerve
was completely paralyzed and I have not regained the ability to lift my
foot. I was a marathoner before my back problems and looked for 2 years to
find something that would return me to running. I am happy to report that
after trying numerous AFO’s on the market I found a brace, the ToeOFF by
Allard USA, that has allowed me to run as well as I did before my surgeries
and subsequent complete foot drop. I will be running the Boston Marathon in
3 weeks wearing their brace. You can see my story on their website,
www.allardusa.com and in addition I would be happy to provide any further
details you may wish to know. I heartily recommend contacting Allard
directly for the details regarding how to fit and customize the brace for
your patient.

Sincerely,

A very satisfied Allard customer,

Most patients would be happy to just be able to walk again. How wonderful
that your patient wants to run. With running, there will be more stresses
on materials and the soft tissues. I would consider a custom molded plastic
AFO with Tamarac dorsi-assist ankle joints with no plantar flexion stop.
You may consider adding a soft interface for the platar surface of the foot,
but this will make it more bulky and hot. KW

Custom Prepreg AFO should be considered. These can be designed to be energy
storing and returning.

Hallo
I should suggest that carbon fiber orthosis is a good solution for this
patient.
We have some expierence of carbon fiber orthosis fitting for peroneus
paralysis patient and stroke patient.

Jean Paul Nielson and Marmaduke Loke at Dynamic Bracing Solutions offer one,
I believe. They have a website.

Du kan fint bruge en ToeOFF til aktive patienter, men det

er meget vigtigt at du retter foden op, hvis der er nogen form for

fejlstillning i denne. Jeg kan fint anbefale at du bruger et

Individuelt indlæg, som påsættes fodpladen på ToeOFFén.

Med hensyn til polstring vil jeg også anbefale den nye Comfort-Kit.

I have been using Kinetic Research’s (Florida) “noodle” carbon graphite afo
for my runners and many other patients. It is perfect for controlling
inversion and dropfoot isolated peroneal nerve paralysis as it has a lateral
strut and full foot plate. It is also more comfortable as the cuff is
posterior. Just like prosthetic feet, the thin, lightwt prepreg carbon
gives energy return and it is remarkably smooth with great dynamic action.
They have some premade, but if he is very active and running you should do
custom and give them his activity level and weight. Patients really like
them, and they are low profile and light. Talk to Wade the owner.

The Centri Dynamic Walk is available from Fillauer and other distributors.

Yes,
I just had a runner with dropfoot that we succerssfullyl fit with the AFO
from Fillauer. It is called the DYNAMIC WALK and works quite well.

Yes a “Toe Off” made by Allard is designed for this. A foot orthosis is
advisable with this system though.

I have also made systems with Tamarrack dorsi assist ankle joints and a
internal removable foot orthosis that can be adjusted as needed.

Hello Maria,

Have Karr make you a noodle style AFO. We have many people running on them.
If you do not want to make it in your lab, we can do it for you.
