6 y/o with arthrogryposis

Sharidy Hathcock

Hello List,

I thought this was posted on Saturday but apparently was sent back to me and so I am resending it to the list.
I have been presented with this case and am looking for some advice based on any cases you have previously seen or knowledge that you have of such a pathology.

I have a case study of a 6 y/o male who was born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenital. This is an idiopathic, non-progressive syndrome. The joints that are effected by this are his hips, knees and ankles. He has no upper limb involvement, no spinal or respiratory involvement. He walks in what I would consider a “crouch” gait position but on his toes. He has a fusion of the ankle at 15 degrees of plantar flexion, knee ROM is 20-95 degrees and hip ROM is 20-105. He currently is get stretching lessons with a physical therapist and parents. He moves independently but does use a wheelchair when going distances >50feet due to soreness. He does not use any other assistive devices besides his removable knee splints.

I am looking for some suggestions of a treatment plan. I hope you can get a picture of this young boy in your head and maybe help me with this case.

I thank you in advance for the knowledge that you all are willing to share.

Thanks,

Sharidy Hathcock
