On October 25, 2004, AOPA submitted detailed comments to the DMERC
Medical Directors on the proposed local coverage determination and
policy article for knee orthoses. AOPA strongly opposed a vast majority
of the draft guidance on the basis that it will adversely impact the
quality of patient care through: 1) inappropriate reductions in payments
and 2) limited choice of services delivered to Medicare patients.

AOPA has been the leading voice for O&P with Medicare, Medicaid,
Veterans Affairs, private insurers and on Capitol Hill for over 40
years. On a daily basis, AOPA is actively fighting for policy changes
that will achieve fair treatment for the entire O&P field.
