We add an inverted large pink plastazote wedge to the proximal heel
counter. The wedge is made out of 1/2″ plastazote; typically 1.5″ in width
and long enough to wrap around the inside of the heel counter from
posterior medial to posterior lateral malleolus. We glue the tapered edge
to the inside of the heel counter (overlap 1/4″ with a Master or Barge glue
bond). You can sew the glued overlap with a patcher, however, this is
usually not necessary. Break the proximal edges of the extended collar to
prevent chaffing. This works in most cases. I’ve had to add an adjustable
tension strap to this collar on occasion, but not often.
