very short transtibial

C McConnell

Dear List Members:
I recently had an appointment to meet a new knee disarticulation =
patient, only to find out on examination that he is a very short =
transtibial, just superior to tibial tubercle level. He is able to =
weight bear on the distal end of the residual limb. He has =
approximately 80 degrees of knee flexion with grade 5 muscle strengths =
on the amputated side. Sound side is weakened by a hip replacement and =
has a ten degree plantarflexion contracture. =20
My colleague and I are planning to try a transtibial fitting using side =
joints and corset, but I would appreciate your input regarding a =
prosthetic prescription, socket modifications and your general =
experiences with this level.
Thank you,
Cathy McConnell B.Sc.
