Billing Question

Kelsey Holden

I was working with a patient and did a transtibial Ossur Complete leg. We went through the fittings and then the definitive was fabricated and arrived. The day before it arrived the patient has a massive heart attack. He was then on a vent, unresponsive, not doing well. He then got off the vent about 2 weeks ago but then had another cardiac arrest on the 15th. He is a very non-compliant man, 55yrs old, is a transmet on the contralateral side and is missing some fingers. Not very healthy, K1 level.

My question, should I bill for the work that we did and return the products that can be returned? That’s my thought but If I do that and the patient gets better and stronger, but the prosthesis doesn’t fit, what would I then do? Code for another definitive?

Thank you!
