Medicare’s regulations

Joan K. Cestaro

OK, since this debate is still very civil and has certainly peeked my interest, I, too, have a question for the list regarding these traveling salespeople with portable “back of the van” facilities. We used to have a gentleman doing this near our area. Is it not true that Medicare now will only reimburse to facilities that have actual and physical locations? I seem to recall one of these Medicare visits years ago. It was a 10 minute “just seeing where you are” visit. It is my understanding that a Medicare representative VISITS each location to assure an actual facility exists before issuing provider numbers for reimbursement. I thought this regulation was established specifically to STOP these “out of the back of a van” incidences. Since it seems to be the elderly who are targeted (as with most scam artists), Medicare would be the main source for payments.
