Osteogenesis imperfecta, Kevin K.

Wieland Kaphingst

Colleages,

just saw a young man, 17, Kevin K., osteogenesis imperfecta, so far more than

300 fractures in his 17 years.

He is looking for a transfer support for his femurs (which are the most

critical area of frequent fractures) while transferring from bed to wheel

chair and vice versa.

Thought about semi rigid 1/3 PP or PE posterior shells held in place by a

simple brace. He is not ambulatory and will have to sit in/on those shells

the whole day long (please consider heat build-up, sweating etc.)

Probably somebody out there has experience with such cases and knows the

right solution. Your advice would be appreciated.

By the way: Where is the next Shriner’s Hospital close to Niagara Falls, NY?

Yours sincerely,

Wieland Kaphingst
