finger contractures

Dear Colleagues,

I am trying to get some information regarding contractures of the 5th

digit. I have a patient who had a traumatic dislocation of his 5th digit.

It was successfully relocated, no surgery required but during the process,

has acquired approximately 25-30 degrees flexion contracture at the PIP and

DIP joints. This happened about 5 months ago. Our strategy is to start

therapy with active stretching of the joints 2 x day combined with an

extensor splint (Smith and Nephew) to provide a continuous low tension

stretch at the PIP and DIP joints.

My questions are:

1- is there any literature available or someone who can tell me if we are

managing this the best way possible?

2- can anyone tell me definitively what kind of results we may get?

Thanks for your help in advance.
