Dear Pat,
There are other types of clear plastics on the market, just to name a few,
one from Ipos is called Ipolen, which has different thicknesses. Otto
Bock has Thermolen Stiff, and possibly clear ABS, these few I think
might serve your purpose. Hope this has been some help.

Lexan is transparent, very strong and particularly impact resistant.
However, it is also hydroscopic and must be stored at a high enough
temperature that moisture will not permeate the material. When heated to
working temperaturee, improperly stored Lexan will be filled with tiny steam
bubbles and will be unusable.
They (whoever they are!) used to use Lexan for replacement windows when
vandalism was a problem (school windows), but kids learned that extreme
cold, a localized cigarette burn, or (I believe) acid would make the
material brittle. It’s hard to fool kids for long.

Otto Bock makes a clear plastic that they claim can be used as a definitive
socket with proper lamination and reinforcment.

There is a material currently utilized in “preforms” for bubble forming molds
which is distributed by PDI (800.459.0177) It is called “Crystal”
It may or may not be too brittle for your needs… I use it for TF sockets “in
the field”….
