I have had discussion with a young man who recently lost his leg in a ped
vs. auto accident. He is a sponsored professional skier who made his
living doing “extreme skiing” for movies. He is 20 years old with a mid
length – long ak amputation. He is very uninterested in pursuing
mono-skiing and has his heart set on skiing with two skis. Although we
have experience in providing ski legs for the below knee level, I have
never tried to provide for an above knee. He is not prepared to listen to
all the reasons to mono ski with outriggers and just wants a chance to
make the decision himself on the hill. Any suggestions as to
suspension/interfaceand knee components given the needs for hip and knee
flexion while skiing?
We already have a nicely designed ski foot from Eric Pickering,CPO,
in southern california that has been used successfully.
I look forward to any replies and suggestions
