O&P Stars Shine at the Academy

Stark, director of clinical operations and technical support, BionIT Labs, and adjunct instructor, University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, is also the Academy’s president-elect for 2024-2025, and a member of The O&P EDGE’s editorial board. He will present sponsored technical sessions, “Next Generation Multiarticulation Design with Adam’s Hand from BionITLabs” and is one of several speakers in “Advancing HCPCS Coding for Upper Limb Prostheses: A Year of Advocacy and Progress.”

Other speakers in that session include:

  • Nina Bondre, MBA, CPO, FAAOP, Click Medical
  • Chris Baschuk, MPO, CPO, FAAOP(D), director of Clinical Services, Point Designs, Utah
  • Blair Lock, CEO, Coapt
  • Patrick Prigge, CP, FAAOP(D), director of clinical engineering, Fasikl
  • Leela Baggett, JD, principal, Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville

Stevens, vice president of clinical affairs, Hanger Institute for Clinical Research and Education, and an instructor in the University of Utah Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, is presenting “Fall Risk Among the Elderly: Assessment Below and Above the Ankle” as part of the Foot & Ankle Biomechanics and Pedorthics track at the Academy.

He is also participating in the session “Findings of the Academy’s State of the Science Conference on Prosthetic Care Following Osseointegration Surgery” with:

  • Brian Kaluf, CP, Ottobock
  • Matthew Garibaldi, MS, CPO
  • Danielle Melton, MD, director of amputation medicine, University of Colorado School of Medicine

Geil, professor and associate dean, Kennesaw State University, is presenting a free paper, “Effects of Low-Profile Prosthetic Foot Compliance on Gait.”

Wurdeman, chief clinical officer, Hanger Clinical and Scientific Affairs and Hanger Institute, is moderating a session about the ongoing research funded by the Orthotics and Prosthetics Outcomes Research Program.

Participating researchers include

  • Ashlie White, MA, chief strategy and programs officer, Amputee Coalition, who is also speaking in the session “Changing O&P Policy: How Evidence Drives Policy Change”
  • Todd Farrell, PhD, CEO, Liberating Technologies, Massachusetts, who is the evidence-based practice committee chair of the Academy;
  • Jason Wilken, PT, PhD, associate professor, University of Iowa, who is also presenting two free papers: The Effect of Carbon Fiber Custom Dynamic Orthosis Use on Outcomes After Traumatic Lower Limb Injury,” and “Effect of Carbon Fiber Custom Dynamic Orthosis Use on Limb Mechanics Following Traumatic Lower Limb Injury.”
  • Sara Morgan, PhD, CPO, research scientist, Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, Minnesota.
