Össur South Africa continued its, “What’s Your Epic,” fundraising and awareness campaign with the 2026 Cape Epic mountain bike race, which began with the 2025 race. The race is scheduled for scheduled for March 15-22, 2026. This year, three two-person teams will represent and raise funds for three South African nonprofit organizations: Jumping Kids, which equips children with prostheses; Rejuvenate SA, which provides mobility aids, rehabilitation, and holistic support; and Zimele NPC, which helps adults with amputations lead independent lives. Team members include Rentia Retief, who had a transtibial amputation following a cycling accident in 2023.
The Cape Epic race is an eight-day stage race that covers 600-700 km with vertical gains that often exceed 15,000 meters. The campaign draws inspiration from the idea that everyone has their own epic—a challenge, dream, or journey that pushes them beyond what they thought possible. Aside from fundraising, the campaign aims to increase support for paracycling across South Africa and to showcase the potential of people with amputations.
