The Pennsylvania Orthotic and Prosthetic Society (POPS) announced the passage of House Bill (HB) 2242, which amends the Medical Practice Act of 1985 related to orthotic, prosthetic, and pedorthic licensing. This bill extends the licensing period until March 31, 2015.
“We needed to address flaws in ACT 90 (the original licensing bill) in order to properly qualify and license prosthetists, orthotists, pedorthists, and orthotic fitters in the Commonwealth,” said Eileen Levis, POPS president. “One significant problem was the complexities encountered by the medical board in processing applications…. HB2242 gave us a vehicle by which to amend the existing law and make sure all certified practitioners were able to continue to practice.”
