BiOM, Bedford, Massachusetts, announced the appointment of Charles S. Carignan, MD, to the role of president and CEO. Carignan has been in the medical device field for more than 20 years, and is associated with several healthcare technologies, including the NvisionVLE™ Imaging System for endoscopy procedures, developed by NinePoint Medical, Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he was the founder and CEO.
Prior to NinePoint, Carignan was executive vice president and chief medical officer at Novasys Medical, Newark, California; chief medical officer at Boston Scientific, Marlborough, Massachusetts; and vice president of clinical research and medical affairs at Conceptus, Mountain View, California. Carignan earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, received his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York, New York, and trained in general surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, New York.
