The four Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contractors (DME MACs) have jointly released a new “Dear Physician Letter” related to electronic health records (EHRs) and addenda. The letter, titled “Dear Physician – Electronic Health Records and Addenda,” helps address the issue with EHRs and documentation of additional clinical information that occurs following the initial beneficiary visit.
“Dear Physician Letters” are tools for suppliers to use when providing durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) to their patients; they are to help guide the physician with meeting the documentation requirements for the DMEPOS items they order.
