Carbon Dust and Skin Irritation

Meg Sligar

When grinding carbon sockets, I tend to have a pretty bad skin reaction–worse than my coworkers. I’m looking for ideas others may have on avoiding so much skin contact with the carbon. Three years ago I got a sleeve caught on the Trautman and broke my radius and ulna both and tore cartilage while buffing a check socket, so wearing long sleeves is out. Latex gloves also just seem to trap the dust under the edges and cause worse problems. Does anyone have any experience with alternatives for preventing so much irritation?

Thanks,

Meg Sligar, CP/L
