Dear Mr. Heckman:
In reply to your question as to what organizations may be involved with nominations for this committee, the Academy will be submitting a name of a member to be considered by CMS. I see you’re an Academy member, and appreciate your support and interest in this important issue.
Tom Gorski, CAE

Subject: [OANDP-L] Medicare Competitive Bidding
Hello List
As most of you know, national competitive bidding for “off the shelf”
orthotics will become reality in the 10 largest metropolitan areas in 2007 and include the 80 largest in 2009. I read where CMS is currently soliciting nominations to serve on the Program Advisory Oversight Committee that will provide advice on many aspects of the implementation of this program. They are looking for individuals with expertise in DME, prosthetics, orthotics or supplies.
My question is directed to the usual group of organizations (ABC, AAOP, AOPA, NAAOP, BOC,etc., individuals, consumers and consumer advocates (Mr.
Barr?). Who is being nominated? If my understanding is correct, a primary issue is or should be to decide just what “off the shelf” means, a matter the Negotiated Rulemaking Committee could not resolve. Competitive Bidding promises to be more black and white. Does anyone know an easy way to find out who from “allied” or “not so allied” health care fields might be sitting on this commettee?
Any general thoughts or comments? Nominations apparently must be received by July 2
