In recognition of Limb Loss Awareness Month, our recent poll question asked clinicians to recall significant moments in their patients’ journeys toward returning to a new life as an amputee. Of those who responded on LinkedIn, 72 percent said their most celebrated moment came when their patient used a prosthesis for the first time; 17 percent said that it was when their patients were able to maintain a sense of humor; and 11 percent said when their patients were recognized for their hard work during their recovery. Seventy-five percent of those who responded on Twitter said peer support was worth celebrating, and 25 percent chose “other.”
Our most recent poll focused on what clinicians do to help prepare their patients to walk again after a planned amputation. Of those who responded, 63 percent said they used peer support with another amputee in advance to help patients understand what could be their new normal when walking; 37 percent said it was important to offer gait training to patients in advance.
And in our latest poll, which is up and in full swing, we’ve focused on the OANDP-L listserv, an email discussion list with over 8,000 subscribers worldwide. The primary purpose of the list is to facilitate clinical, research, and professional issues discussions related to O&P. Our question: What do you find most beneficial about the service?
