I first became interested in animal O&P care in 2016 when a colleague asked if I could make a prosthetic device for their dog that had a missing hind limb. I had never thought of it before, but I was sure I could come up with something. The result ended up working out great.
Once I decided to open an animal-exclusive practice, I began a conversation with My Pet’s Brace in November 2022 and sealed a licensing deal in May 2023 to begin my journey in veterinary O&P. I later decided that I wanted more control over my products, and I wanted to do more research and development, which led me to break away from My Pets Brace and begin looking at what business model would best serve me and the field. To get a pulse of what was needed to push the field forward and to learn about the interest within O&P for working in animal care, I conducted a survey on the OANDP-L listserv in November 2024.
