Residual limb volume changes can make socket fit difficult to manage throughout the day, affecting comfort, stability, and confidence for lower-limb prosthesis users.

The Overlay by Ethnocare is a breathable fabric sleeve with an integrated air expansion system designed to help users manage volume fluctuations directly inside the socket, without removing their prosthesis.

Available for transfemoral and transtibial users

While many clinicians are already familiar with the Overlay TT, the Overlay TF brings the same adjustable air technology to transfemoral users. It is designed to support improved socket fit, stability, and comfort for above-knee amputees experiencing daily volume changes.

The Overlay is available for:

Transfemoral users
Transtibial users

With a wide range of sizes and configurations, the Overlay is designed to fit the large majority of lower-limb amputees. It is compatible with most existing liners and sockets, and can be used with distal fixation systems, suspension sleeves, seal ring liners, and passive or active vacuum systems.

Key benefits

  • Adjustable cushioning equivalent to 2-ply to 15-ply
  • Easy adjustment without removing the prosthesis
  • Thin, breathable textile design
  • Supports improved socket fit, comfort, and stability
  • Available for both transfemoral and transtibial users
  • Compatible with K1 to K4 activity level patients

US reimbursement

The Overlay TT and TF have a dedicated HCPCS code in the United States: L5657.

L5657: Addition to lower extremity prosthesis, manual/automated adjustable air, fluid, gel or equal socket insert for limb volume management, any materials.

CMS has also assigned a 2026 fee schedule, effective April 1, 2026, creating a clearer reimbursement pathway for clinics providing the Overlay to eligible patients.

Available through trusted US distributors

The Overlay is available through major O&P distributors, including:

  • Hanger
  • SPS
  • Cascade
  • PEL
