Over the past several years, the O&P profession has had its share of legislative battles; some were won, others lost, and more await. The O&P Alliance, a coalition of representatives from five national O&P organizations (the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (the Academy), the American Board for Certification in Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Pedorthics (ABC), the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA), the Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC), and the National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics and Prosthetics (NAAOP)) advocates for state and federal policy to improve patient access to quality O&P services by representing the O&P profession in legislative and regulatory matters.
The O&P Alliance monitors governmental proposals regarding policies, rules, and regulations to ensure they don’t negatively impact the O&P profession or the patients we serve. The following are some of the legislative achievements the O&P Alliance has delivered to the profession:
