After nearly six years with Amplitude Media Group, Larry Borowsky has transitioned out as editor in chief of Amplitude magazine, the sister publication of The O&P EDGE magazine. Amplitude magazine is a lifestyle resource with print and digital media for the limb-loss community.
“I feel very lucky to have had this opportunity,” Borowsky said. “The limb-loss community is full of admirable people, and it’s been a great pleasure to bring their work and their stories to a wider audience.”
The challenge of managing Amplitude’s content has been keeping up with current events and developments, Borowsky said. “There’s just too much amputee-related news on too many fronts to cover everything. That’s a great problem for an editor to have. It’s energizing,” he said. “But you always wish you could give every worthy story the attention it deserves.”
Borowsky added that the role also taught him more about the US healthcare system. “The main weakness is that it too often fails to prioritize quality of life,” he said. “The biggest strength is the people—patients and practitioners—who make the system work despite the flaws, and who keep fighting to make it better.”
In his final Amplitude column Borowsky wrote, “I wish I’d been introduced to the amputee community when I was 20 years younger and still had half a career to stay on this beat. But at age 63, I no longer have the energy the job needs and deserves.”
