The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) sent a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services urging it to include O&P providers among the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. AOPA also submitted comments with the same request to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Council on Immunization Practices, the group charged with making recommendations for the phased allocation of the vaccine.
O&P providers have been considered essential healthcare workers since the onset of the COVID-19 public health emergency. AOPA said that getting access to the vaccine as soon as it is available would protect O&P providers and their patients.
