The American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Labor about a proposed rule that could affect how essential health benefits are covered under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The proposed rule states that expanding the definition of employer to include association-based health plans will provide more opportunities for the associations to negotiate the terms of insurance plans on behalf of their members. AOPA is concerned that expansion of association-based health plans will reduce the requirements for these plans to provide coverage for essential health benefits, which includes provisions for O&P care.
