BionicM raised $5.46 million in a first close of its Series B round. The company, a spinout from the University of Tokyo, is building powered prosthetic legs that apply humanoid robotics to assist movement.
Its flagship product, the Bio Leg powered prosthetic knee, has Class II registration from the US Food and Drug Administration. The money raised will fund production, marketing, and sales for a new electromechanical microprocessor knee (MPK), Asista, scheduled for launch next year.
Including equity and grants, BionicM said its total raised stands at $19.8 million.
