Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease affecting millions worldwide, impairing daily activities and active lifestyles. Characterized by progressive cartilage degradation, knee OA leads to pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility, making walking, stair climbing, and prolonged standing challenging. Traditional management provides limited relief and does not address mechanical dysfunctions.

The Evoke™ bespoke 3D-printed knee brace enhances mobility and reduces pain by correcting biomechanical imbalances. By applying a corrective valgus or varus force, it offloads the affected knee compartment, reducing cartilaginous stress and mitigating pain. The Evoke™ 3D-printed knee brace targets medial or lateral compartments, providing precise mechanical unloading where needed, offering clinical benefits and improved quality of life.

Features of the Evoke™ 3D-Printed Knee Brace

The Evoke™ 3D-printed knee brace stands out due to its innovative design and features that enhance its effectiveness and comfort by featuring an innovative unloading system designed to mitigate abnormal medial or lateral compartment loads. Utilizing digital modelization technology, this process provides precise varus or valgus corrections. By creating an opposing force to the natural varus or valgus deformity, the brace realigns the mechanical axis of the knee joint. This reduces abnormal loading on the affected cartilage, alleviates pain, and slows the progression of joint degeneration.

Advanced Valgus-Varus Correction using Digital Modeling

Our custom modelization process allows for precise varus or valgus correction, based on expert clinician specifications. Starting from the patient’s 3D scan and landmarks, we accurately identify the biomechanical axes of the leg.

Using these references, we virtually apply the necessary corrections, creating a 3D model of the desired alignment while respecting the patient’s natural biomechanics. The brace is then modelized to match the desired outcome, with specified amounts of medio-lateral compression along the leg for a firm yet comfortable control.

When worn, the brace’s patient-specific shape will apply corrective forces distributed evenly across it’s the structure, minimizing the risk of pressure points.

Lightweight and Ergonomic Design

Constructed from advanced lightweight composite materials, the brace maintains structural integrity and durability. Its ergonomic design ensures an anatomical fit that adapts to the contours of the knee, optimizing load distribution and maximizing comfort for prolonged wear.

Asymmotion™ Hinge, Explained

The Asymmotion™ Hinge is a cutting-edge feature of OssKin knee braces, aligned with the anatomical and biomechanical properties of the knee joint. It mimics natural knee movement, accommodating complex rotational and translational motions, including the screw-home mechanism towards full extension and roll-back during high flexion. As the only system that perfectly tracks the instantaneous flexion axis of the knee throughout the

full range of motion (ROM), including axial rotation and abduction-adduction, the Asymmotion™ Hinge replicates healthy knee kinematics. This allows for multidirectional control, reducing the risk of abnormal mechanical stress and fostering a natural gait pattern.

Clinical and Real-World Benefits

The Evoke™ knee brace offers significant real-world benefits for OA patients, often enhancing mobility and enabling more active lifestyles. Its design allows for comfortable, long-term wear, crucial for consistent use and optimal outcomes. Activities that were previously painful, such as extended walking and low-impact sports, become manageable, improving quality of life.

A primary concern with knee braces is patient compliance, as discomfort can lead to inconsistent use. The Evoke™ 3D-printed knee brace addresses this with its lightweight, ergonomic design and precision adjustability, encouraging regular use and adherence to treatment plans. It offers a clinically validated, patient-friendly option that medical practitioners can confidently recommend for knee OA.
